Improvisation
Participants use active theatre games and improvisation
to expand their creativity. Through these activities
students enhance basic theatre skills including
focus and concentration, self- confidence, and ensemble
building.
Character Development
Students learn how to exercise their imagination
to produce various creative and complex characters.
Scene Study
In this class, participants apply inner resources
to explore scenes focusing on objectives, emotions
and relationships.
Directing
Directors work on play analysis, theme and concept,
and blocking as they discover their personal strengths
as directors.
Anger Management
Engaging activities help students discover positive
ways to handle emotions and resolve conflicts.
Folk Tales and Folk Art
Visual artist Juana Harper joins Brenda Porter to
teach this exciting workshop. Participants use theatre
and story telling activities to explore one or more
folk tales. Then, based on the folktales,
participants develop their own folk art. Additionally,
students learn the historical implications of both
folktales and folk art.
Teaching Teachers
With direction, teachers devise creative ways to
enliven academic subjects through the incorporation
of the arts. Teachers also explore and develop activities
that encourage students’ involvement in the
learning process.
“Pathways”
The students share stories and search their own
pasts to discover their personal path-builders.
They explore their own strengths and discern what
makes them unique and identify personality traits
which they possess that they can use to build paths
for others to follow.Customized

Topics can range from story telling to a dramatic
rendering of a particular piece of literature, to
diversity awareness or to any other special group
need.
Residencies
All workshops are available in residencies, which
are planned according to the needs of the group.
They can range in length and can vary in final presentations.

development for students of all ages.
The skills learned and developed using theatre arts
can make a difference in how one operates in daily
life.
Theatre works to improve memory, enhance imagination,
encourage creativity, improve concentration and
focus, and develop problem-solving skills. In addition,
it can help build self-esteem, increase confidence,
and develop ensemble-building skills.
Theatre also has been known to show improvements
in students’ physical and vocal skills.
